In support of this year’s Library Advocacy Day, which will be held on February 5, 2025, library patrons across New York State are participating in the #MyPublicLibrary Campaign.

This campaign aims to showcase how important libraries are to their communities and how they enrich the lives of the patrons they serve. Patrons can share their stories through photos or videos expressing how much the library means to them. These videos and photos will then be shared on social media and used in a presentation during a NYS Legislative Session to advocate for public library funding.

Photos and videos can be done in the library with staff assistance. If you would like to participate, please speak to a librarian to get started!

I Want To Make A Video

  • Video should be around 60 seconds or less
  • Video will be posted on the library’s social media channels including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok
  • Video needs to include first name(s), name of library, what you enjoy about the library and/or a positive experience you would like to share about the library
  • Staff will record the video at the library
  • To prepare for your video, write out 3-4 sentences ahead of time to gather your thoughts

I Want To Take A Photo

  • Instead of making a video, patrons have the option to take a photo in the library and share a personal quote
  • Your quote can include a positive experience you would like to share, or what you love most about your library
  • Photo will be posted on the library’s social media channels including Instagram and Facebook
  • Photo includes first name(s) and the option to share your age.
  • Staff will take the photo for you at the library
