Any resident of the Central Islip School District is eligible for a Central Islip Public Library Card. With a library card, you will be able to borrow library materials, attend programs, access our online resources and more!
How to Apply
Visit the Patron Services desk at the library. You will need to provide proof of residency, including your name and street address. We require a valid NYS driver’s license, a NYS non-driver identity card, or 2 other forms of identification with a Central Islip address. (PO boxes will not be accepted).
Other acceptable forms of identification are:
- Auto registration card
- Auto insurance card
- Lease or deed
- Property tax bill
- Town of Islip recreation card
- Pay stub dated within the last 30 days
- Personal checkbook
- ID from consulate
- Mail postmarked within the last 30 days, preferably a bill. (If showing two pieces of mail, they must be from two different companies and one must be a bill).
Parents may get a library card for their children using the same procedure. Children from birth to age 12 will get a Juvenile library card. Teens ages 13 to 17 will get a Teen library card.

Children's Programming
All programs are for Central Islip Library cardholders only. There is a limited amount of spots available in each program. If a program fills, you will be placed on a waitlist for the event. If an available spot opens, you will be contacted and placed on the active program list.
Please be on time for programs. If you are not present by the start of the program, your place in the program is not guaranteed.
If you are unable to attend a program you are registered for, please let us know so we can alert those on the waitlist. Contact the Children's Department at 631-234-9333 x6 to cancel.

Teen Programming
Teen programs are for students in grades 7 -12.
In-person programs, and Zoom classes, all require advanced registration, and are limited to Central Islip Public Library cardholders.
Grandchild Cards
Grandparents of Central Islip may get a Central Islip Public Library card for their grandchildren. Grandchild cards are eligible for 3 months, and will allow the child to borrow library items and attend library programs.
Educator Cards:
If you are a teacher working in the Central Islip School District, and you have a personal library card in good standing, you are eligible for an Educator Card. With an Educator Card, you can borrow materials to use in your classroom and get access to all of our e-resources. Educator Cards are valid for one year after which they will be eligible for renewal. Please note, Educator Cards may only be used for classroom materials and may not be used for personal use, program attendance, or museum passes. To apply for an Educator Card, please visit our Patron Services desk and present a form of educator identification (school ID, pay stub, etc.)
Temporary Digital Library Card:
A Digital Library Card provides immediate access to the library's online resources including:
- eBooks and audiobooks
- Videos and music
- Magazines and newspapers
- Research databases
- Study help, homework help and test prep
